Comparing Biochar-Swine Manure Mixture to Conventional Manure Impact on Soil Nutrient Availability and Plant Uptake—A Greenhouse Study

چکیده

The use of swine manure as a source plant nutrients is one alternative to synthetic fertilizers. However, conventional application with >90% water and low C:N ratio results in soil C loss the atmosphere. Our hypothesis was biochar nutrient stabilizer that would slowly release plants upon biochar-swine mixture soil. objectives were evaluate impact biochar-treated on total C, N, plant-available macro- micronutrients greenhouse-cultivated corn (Zea mays L.) soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). Neutral pH red oak (RO), highly alkaline autothermal stover (HAP), mild acidic Fe-treated (HAPE) biomass pyrolyzed prepare biochars. Each surface-applied at 1:4 (biochar wt/manure wt) generate mixtures respective biochars (MRO, MHAP, MHAPE). Conventional (M) control manure-biochar then applied recommended rate. Corn grown under these controls treatments (S, M, MRO, MHAPE) quality, yield, uptake. Soil organic matter significantly (<0.05) increased all treatments; however, no change or N observed any treatment. No difference ammonium between identified. There significant decrease Mehlich3 (M3) P KCl extractable NO3? for compared M. concentrations not different from manure. Moreover, an increasing trend decreasing biochar-manure than noted. This observation suggests presence capable influencing such way lose those early growth stages plant. In general, statistical yield uptake P, K observed. Interestingly, diluted M3 Cu Zn concentrations. attribute has potential be better amendment

Hardwood biochar and manure co-application to a calcareous soil.

Biochar may affect the mineralization rate of labile organic C sources such as manures via microbial community shifts, and subsequently affect nutrient release. In order to ascertain the positive or negative priming effect of biochar on manure, dairy manure (2% by wt.) and a hardwood-based, fast pyrolysis biochar were applied (0%, 1%, 2%, and 10% by wt.) to a calcareous soil. Destructive sampli...

Manure and sorbent fertilisers increase on-going nutrient availability relative to conventional fertilisers.

The key to better nutrient efficiency is to simultaneously improve uptake and decrease losses. This study sought to achieve this balance using sorbent additions and manure nutrients (spent poultry litter; SL) compared with results obtained using conventional sources (Conv; urea nitrogen, N; and phosphate-phosphorus; P). Two experiments were conducted. Firstly, a phosphorus pot trial involving t...

Ameliorating Effects of Biochar Derived from Poultry Manure and White Clover Residues on Soil Nutrient Status and Plant growth Promotion - Greenhouse Experiments

Biochar application to agricultural soils is rapidly emerging as a new management strategy for its potential role in carbon sequestration, soil quality improvements, and plant growth promotion. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of biochars derived from white clover residues and poultry manure on soil quality characteristics, growth and N accumulation in maize (Zea mays L.) and...

Biochar and manure affect calcareous soil and corn silage nutrient concentrations and uptake.

Carbon-rich biochar derived from the pyrolysis of biomass can sequester atmospheric CO, mitigate climate change, and potentially increase crop productivity. However, research is needed to confirm the suitability and sustainability of biochar application to different soils. To an irrigated calcareous soil, we applied stockpiled dairy manure (42 Mg ha dry wt) and hardwood-derived biochar (22.4 Mg...

Nutrient composition of Kansas swine lagoons and hoop barn manure.

A total of 312 samples in two experiments were analyzed to determine mean nutrient concentrations of swine lagoons and hoop barns in Kansas. First, in a retrospective study (Exp. 1), we obtained 41 sample analyses from the Kansas Department of Agriculture of sow, nursery, wean-to-finish, finish, and farrow-to-finish operations in 1999. The average total N concentration was 899 ppm (SD = 584 ppm...
